UHT Supreme

I come to you today with yet another mystery...

This morning, Dave and I had to leave work to go and get paint for our boss Bec, who is painting her house and wanted to take full advantage of the "buy one get one free" deal at paint spot, which has a one per customer kind of deal, so off we trecked down whitehorse road to get paint, but as a little reward we were allowed to go get some breakie at macca's, which is where my mystery for the day comes from.

At McDonalds, I purchased a cup of tea, but instead of getting it from "Mc Cafe" like I normally would, I just went to the regular que. So when I got my tea it came a bit like a box of lego where I had to assemble it myself.

Anyway...One of the parts was the UHT milk, and here is what I want to know...

Where does UHT milk come from? Is it still from cows? I heard a rumor that it comes from cats, but thats just gross, but does it? But seriously is like a special kind of cow? Do they have little squirters from their udders? How do they get it in such a variety of containers, Normal cows only do your standard carton? And what does UHT even stand for?? UnHappy Terrorists? Utterly Horrible Tasting? Uneven Hairy Tails?

Just a thought I had...

Stay tunned

I have done some research for ya..

Ultra-heat-treated (UHT) or long-life milk
UHT milk has been heated to a very high temperature to destroy any spoilage micro-organisms, and then cooled quickly. It’s then packed in sterile packaging under sterile conditions, and will keep for many months without refrigeration. Refrigerate to cool it just before opening, and once open use it like normal milk. UHT milk doesn’t lose nutrients during processing, so has the same nutritional value as normal milk.

hmm...there is no mention there of cows. Perhaps they're trying to hide the fact that it is from cats..
I also found out that 7 out of 10 Eurpopeans drink UHT. Interesting..

i did hear that you can milk cats, but they are only good for about 3 months then there udders/nipples become swollen and don't work any longer...just what i heard.

Thanks Brad, I really appreciate all your research and it is good to know that I am not losing any of my much need calcium by drinking "old" milk so to speak.

Although, I am still curious about the cow/cat problem, I heard that maybe goats could be used.

Em, i was wondering, in the country, where only drink UHT milk, do the kids have to open like 50 little packets to have on there cereal in the morning, and what if they are running late, do they miss the bus because the are still trying to get enough for their weatbix?

Georgie, you really need your own blog!
Yes I did cut and paste from google...at least Emma appreciated it! It did take some effort.
Do you two work in the same area? Do you converse verbally or must it all take place online? You should get msn at work! That would be good.

same area, but msn has been banned, but blogging hasn't, my own blog is a bad idea i wouldn't ever update, it takes time that i don't have, I did save my best stuff for RAWs but thats gone so now, what do i do.

You know how UHT milk from maccas comes in the little container with the foil lid, and o the lid is a picture of like a purple flower?? I always thought the milk came from the flower... or they use the flower to keep it from spoiling...
maybe they just put the flower there to distract you from the whole cat milk thought.

Well, the origin of the milk is still up for debate, maybe it is this mystic flower you speak of. :)

Hey Em,
You should have done Food Commodities and Products last semester...we learnt about UHT milk then. If I recall rightly 138 degrees for 2 seconds.
And country people who do use UHT milk buy the 1 litre packets! Gotta go to netball.
